Recently looked up the biggest 3 tariffs in the US History to compare to the first group of tariffs put into effect by ***** on Feb 1, 2025. The difference were most were enacted by Congress as was more typical, but also done during summer when Congress was likely on break. See below: Tariff of Abominations of May 1828, Dingley Act of June 1897, and the Smoot-Hawley Act of July 1930, And *****'s Tariff Acts of Feb 2025.
Tariff of Abominations May 19, 1828 (Andrew Jackson sitting President, this was noted to be a precursor to the Civil War)
Dingley Act July 24, 1897 (William McKinley sitting President)
Smoot-Hawley Act, June 17, 1930 (Herbert Hoover, sitting President)
Trump Tariffs signed into effect Feb 1, 2025 (later partially rescinded)
